The ancient theater of Gitana was constructed in the plain of lower Kalamas around the middle of the 3rd century BC. Gitana served as the political center and seat of the Thesprotian League from the time of its establishment in the 2nd half of the 4th century BC until its occupation by the Romans in 167 BC.
It is located about 16 km northeast of Igoumenitsa. Visitors follow the road from Igoumenitsa to Sagiada. After crossing the bridge over the Dam of Kalamas River they can turn to the paved road on the right, which leads to the entrance of the site after a 1 km course.
