The Historical Museum of Ioannina “Ch. Nikolaou” is housed in the preserved mansion located at 9 Neoptolemou Street opposite the main gate of the castle and was built in 1900. The showrooms are located on the two floors of the building and its collections are the result of years of study, research and search of historical objects, with high technical aesthetics and semantic features. It focuses mainly on documents from the city of Ioannina and the wider Greek area during the late Ottoman period in order to bring the public in direct contact with the aesthetics of the multili-selective, multilingual and multi-religious character of this period. While touring the museum, many unique objects are also exhibited, such as the Pasha costume of Ioannina with the gold-embroidered Vizier’s office in the early 19th century, the diamond-shaped scepter, various religious objects of the Muslims and objects of the Jewish community of Ioannina.
