Koukounari is a modern café – grocery located in Papigo. Open from 09:00 in the morning until 23:00 in the evening, it offers breakfast such as omelettes, rustic bread with homemade jams, pancakes, cakes, pies and smoothies. Throughout the day, however, you can enjoy your coffee accompanied by sweets made daily, and eat a light meal as 2 salty pies and 2 soups are on the menu each day.
All these are made by Katerina’s hands and the recipes are her own. On the shelves of the grocery you will find local produce, such as wines from local producers, cheeses, herbs, honey and other products, many of which are organic! In the corner of the bookstore you will surely find a book to accompany you on your vacation.
At Koukounari the menu is vegetarian and you will find many vegan and gluten free options.
In winter you can sit by the fireplace and taste hot salad, rakomelo, vinomelo and herbal teas. In the summer under the vineyard, you will enjoy homemade lemonade which is a must after a walk on the trails, as well as homemade ice cream and cool cocktails, with local produce, such as the aged tsipouro in the area. But whichever season you visit Koukounari, you will taste the famous carrot cake, apple pie, goat cheese cheesecake and many more homemade sweets!
Behind all this are George and Katerina, two young people from Athens and Ioannina respectively, who decided to leave their cities and settle permanently in the village. If you want to discover Papigo’s hidden secrets, Koukounari will be open to welcome you with its delights, as well as the wide smile of the two young men who made it.
