Necromanteion of Acheron Culture tour

On a hill in the village of Mesopotamos, 48 ​​km NW of Preveza, is the oldest Necromanteion of antiquity, the Nekromanteio (Necromancer) of Acheron, near the ancient Mycenaean colony of Ephyra (14th-13th century BC). Here the ancients placed the gates of the Underworld, the entrance to the kingdom of Hades. According to the legend, the hearse Hermes, through Lake Acherousia, led the souls to Hades.
Visitors from all over the known world flocked to this unique oracle to communicate with the souls of their loved ones after proper preparation.
The river Acheron was the way where the Charon led the souls to the lake Acherousia, in the bowels of which was the kingdom of Hades. For this reason, they established over a cave (at the confluence of the Kokytos and Acheron rivers) on the northwest bank of Acherousia, the most important place of worship of the gods of the Underworld and communication with the souls of the dead, the Acheron Necromancy.
